Henry R. Luce founded Time magazine in 1923--along with his childhood friend and college roommate Briton Hadden. In this prodigiously researched study, Isaiah Wilner explores the circumstances behind their collaboration and what appears to have been a conscious (or unconscious) effort by Luce to downplay or even deny the role of Hadden, who died young. Biographer Wilner paints a vivid portrait of the fast-living Hadden, leaving readers to conjecture whether he just may have been the creative force behind the newsweekly that was to build Luce`s life and fortune.
